BTU rating of E85 is about 82,000, gasoline is about 112,000. However, if you build an NA engine strictly for E85, you use higher compression because of the octane rating of 105. That NA engine tune for E85 "may" have more torque and HP than NA engine built for gasoline. This offsets the lower BTU rating. An E85 only engine can't run gasoline cause of the higher compression. Also, E85 has higher oxygen content so the A/F ratio needs to be adjusted for that. On a turbo engine, you raise the boost level to increase the dynamic compression to get the same or more HP.
